TYA North East & North Cumbria Visit
18th – 21st June 2024
Flynne’s Barn is set on the picturesque Thorneythwaite Farm, close by to the beautiful Derwentwater and the town of Keswick. Upon arrival to the barn, we were welcomed by Katherine and Robin and all in awe at the set up of the barn and excited for the coming days.
Flynne’s Barn was something else! Catherine and robin were able to give back to other people with cancer after everything they went through. It was such a surreal experience to forget about our own troubles. I love how we were all intertwined with nature and we all came together like a family. Massive thanks to Gemma and Louise too yous made it extra special. And thankyou to all the other young people too I love that we all got along straight away and the laughs we had, couldn’t have been with better people! And it’s something I will NEVER forget. Ben.
Katherine and Robin had kindly provided us with a programme for the duration of our stay which included canoeing on Derwentwater, bushcraft and team games, valley walks, yoga in the meadow and the Infinity Bridge at Honister Slate Mine. The barn itself had a vast variety of games, books, arts and crafts and provided guests with lots of opportunity to relax and unwind. We were incredibly lucky to have a local chef provide several meals to us during our stay, and all had fun taking part in cooking group breakfasts and DIY pizzas too.
We had a brilliant log fire in the tipi on our last night and all had fun toasting marshmallows and reminiscing on our favourite and funniest memories of the trip. We were lucky to have Jenny (a support worker) and Emmy (on Year 10 work experience) with us for our activities too and they were a brilliant addition in supporting the group throughout our stay. Flynne’s Barn is a really special place to visit and the whole group felt very lucky to have had this experience.
